So what is small size effect? When the nanoparticle size is equal to or smaller than the wavelength of the light wave, the de Broglie wavelength of the conduction electron and the coherence length and transmission depth of the superconducting state, its periodic boundary is destroyed. The atomic density near the amorphous surface layer of the nanoparticle is reduced, so that the acoustic, optical, electrical, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties are changed. For example, when copper particles reach nanometer size, they become electrically non-conductive, and the insulating silica particles start to conduct electricity at 20nm.
