Blue tungsten oxide nanopowder not only may be applied for preparing thermal insulating glass material, but also can be used as a raw material for the production of ultrafine tungsten powder. In the preparation of tungsten powder, if the process conditions are controlled, it is advantageous for the preparation of fine or ultrafine tungsten powder. Therefore, some researchers used an electron probe scanner to analyze the change of phase composition of blue tungsten oxide during the reduction process for tungsten powder from 770°C~900°C. In this process, the particle morphology of blue tungsten oxide powder was studied, and the phase change of blue tungsten oxide to γ-tungsten oxide (WO2.72), γ-tungsten oxide (WO2.72) to tungsten dioxide (WO2), and dioxide oxidation to tungsten were studied.
The results show that the reduction process of γ-tungsten oxide to tungsten dioxide is a key process to control the morphology of tungsten powder particles. If the process conditions are controlled, it is beneficial to prepare or ultrafine tungsten powder. And the reduction process from tungsten dioxide to tungsten powder is not a key process to control the morphology of tungsten powder.
