Compared with tungsten oxide products such as yellow tungsten oxide, blue tungsten oxide and ammonium tungsten bronze, violet tungsten oxide has the most special morphology. The particle structure has a large gap and a low bulk density, which facilitates the infiltration of hydrogen and the escape of water vapor during the reduction process, so that the reduction starts not only at the surface but also simultaneously at the interior. Therefore, in hydrogen reduction process, a large number of crystal nuclei of tungsten powder are formed, and the reaction speed is fast, the particle size is fine, so that it is suitable for producing fine tungsten powder.
Some scholars have also studied the phase composition of the violet tungsten oxide in the reduction process. They found that ultrafine or nanometer tungsten and tungsten carbide powders can be prepared by using violet tungsten oxide as a raw material in the intermediate stage of tungsten dioxide formation during the reduction process.
