Rare earth market update on March 12, 2025
The overall situation of the domestic rare earth market remains relatively favorable, primarily reflected in the continued upward trend of prices for various rare earth raw materials, strong inquiry and procurement enthusiasm from downstream users, and a prevalent reluctance among suppliers to sell due to bullish expectations. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, praseodymium-neodymium metal, and gadolinium oxide have increased by approximately 2,000 yuan/ton, 1,000 yuan/ton, and 1,000 yuan/ton, respectively. Notably, in the short term, magnetic material enterprises are mainly engaging in just-in-time procurement to meet immediate needs. However, from a long-term perspective, the rare earth market is still expected to heat up further, largely due to optimistic development prospects in emerging fields such as humanoid robots, new energy, and the low-altitude economy. By the end of 2024, China’s intelligent robotics industry boasted over 450,000 enterprises, while the production and sales volumes of new energy vehicles reached 12.888 million and 12.866 million units, respectively.
In terms of news, during the National People's Congress(NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC), Li Baoquan, head of the Hydrogen Storage Materials Office at the Rare Earth Functional Materials Institute of the Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute, stated that he submitted two proposals: "Proposal on the Comprehensive Utilization and Protection of Baiyun’ebo Rare Earth Minerals" and "Proposal on Promoting the High-Quality Development of Green Electricity and Green Hydrogen in Inner Mongolia." The Baiyun’ebo rare earth mine is a crucial rare earth resource treasure trove in China. However, challenges remain in its comprehensive utilization and protection. The "Proposal on the Comprehensive Utilization and Protection of Baiyun’ebo Rare Earth Minerals" aims to achieve breakthroughs in rare earth mining, beneficiation, smelting, and tailings utilization by optimizing resource development methods and strengthening technological innovation, thereby promoting the sustainable development and efficient utilization of rare earth minerals.
