WO3, namely tungsten trioxide, is an important inorganic photochromic material, which may be used for the preparation of thermal insulation film. The obtained thin film has a good application prospect in smart windows. And therefore tungsten trioxide nano particles have attracted wide attention of scientists.

Compared with organic photochromic materials, tungsten trioxide has better stability and lower cost. However, its photochromic response time tends to be relatively long. Experts have proposed various solutions to shorten the response time of WO3-based electrochromic materials and have achieved meaningful results. For example, WO3 is combined with a conductive polymer of electrochromic effect to obtain an electrochromic film with a fast response speed and good cycle stability. Some experts have deposited a layer of polyaniline on the surface of WO3 nanorods prepared by hydrothermal method, which not only realizes the multicolorization of WO3 film, but shortens the response time to the millisecond level. Some experts have also prepared poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxyphage)-doped polystyrene sulfonate and WO3 nanoparticle composite film by layer-by-layer self-assembly method. This composite film exhibits a high optical modulation range and a large coloring efficiency.
