Nest-like hydrated tungsten trioxide nanosheet film can be directly grown on the surface of FTO conductive glass (without seed layer) by using ethylene glycol with a large amount of hydroxyl groups as a solvent. So what is the electrochromic property of the prepared hydrated tungsten trioxide film? The UV-Vis transmittance curve of the nest-like hydrated tungsten trioxide nanosheet film prepared by self-seeding hydrothermal method and the corresponding digital photos are shown as below.

As can be seen from the photograph, as the negative voltage is increased from -0.5V to -1.0V, the color of the film is deepened. And when the voltage is adjusted to 1.0V, the film immediately new_s to the original colorless state. It can be seen from the transmittance curve that the self-seeding hydrothermal film can completely recover to its original state in the fading state, and the fading state of the film prepared by the seed-assisted method under the same conditions cannot be completely restored to the original state. This is mainly because the injection of lithium ions into the dense seed layer results in a color change of the seed layer, which cannot be removed when a positive pressure is applied. And therefore, the film cannot new_ to the original state, leading to a lower optical modulation range.
