The cycle life of Ta doping WO3 film is an important parameter for the application of electrochromic materials and one of the important criteria for evaluating its performance.
Therefore, some experts used cyclic voltammetry to test the cycle life of Ta-doped tungsten trioxide film, that is, repeatedly applying a voltage of -0.6 to +0.6V on the film sample, so that the film is fading multiple times, and the stability of cyclic voltammetry curve of sample is observed after 50 times of cycling. The cyclic voltammetry curves of the undoped tungsten trioxide film and 15% Ta doping tungsten trioxide film are shown in the figure below.

It can be seen from figure (a) that the area surrounded by the cyclic voltammetry curve of the pure tungsten trioxide film after 50 cycles has been significantly reduced, indicating that its stability in the acidic electrolyte is poor, and the injection of H+ ions has caused some degree of corrosion to the film. In figure (b), the case of the 15% Ta doped WO3 film is different. The shape and area of the cyclic voltammetry curve are maintained very well after 50 cycles, indicating that the 15% Ta doping tungsten trioxide film has good cyclic voltammetry stability. According to experts, this is because the film exhibits good acid corrosion resistance after Ta doping in the WO3 film, which can significantly improve the cycle life of the film.
